Introduction to Sources

It’s difficult to remember where you keep certain files and media when you have numerous devices available to you. There are memories you want to save and visit in the future, such as a wonderful vacation you’ve just returned from or an important family document that’s been shared. With Sources, you can keep close track of your stored content from a variety of storage services and devices.

Sources are the locations of your stored content. You can add and remove these at your convenience. There are certain storage services and devices recognized as a Source. Currently, EdgeRover™ recognizes the following:

  • Internal Storage: Storage devices built into your computer, such as your internal hard drive.
  • External Storage: Storage devices that connect to your computer, such as flash drives and external hard drives.
  • Social Media: Social services, such as photos and videos from Facebook.
  • Cloud Storage: Cloud storage services, such as Google Drive™, Google Photos™, and Dropbox™.

The Sources tab

When you launch EdgeRover, your experience begins in the Sources tab of the main menu. In the main view, under “Add & manage your Sources,” there’s a horizontal list of source types that tells you how many you own of each category. Under the source types is a preview section of your connected and disconnected sources, and the option to Add new Source .

The source preview displays an image of the service or device type, its name, and information about its status.

Hover over the source to display the primary action available for that Source. Click the Ellipsis on its right to open a drop-down menu of secondary actions available. The actions available change depending on the source type and its current state.

Hover over the different sections of the colored bar to see how much space is being used by different file types. The black bar above it shows how much of the available capacity is used.

The colored dot represents the status of the source. The colors indicate the following status:

  • Green: The source is connected.
  • Green with a checkmark: The source is connected and cataloged.
  • Yellow with a pause symbol: The cataloging process is paused.
  • Grey with a checkmark: The source is cataloged and disconnected.
  • Grey: The source hasn't been cataloged and is disconnected.
