Device management

You can use EdgeRover™ to manage supported WD™ and SanDisk® storage devices.

To manage supported devices, follow these steps:

  1. Navigate to the Sources tab.
  2. Click the Ellipsis icon on a Source to see the available options.
  3. Select the option of your choice. Some options include Catalog device, Browse Catalog, Edit Catalog, Remove Catalog, Lock Source, and Formatting.
Note: On most devices, EdgeRover supports the Eject Source feature which prepares the storage device to be removed safely.

EdgeRover lists additional options if it supports the device. Those options include:

  • Catalog device: Catalog a device to add its contents to your EdgeRover Catalog. Check out Cataloging to learn more.
  • Browse Catalog: Peruse through your cataloged content with ease by browsing by category, browsing by source, or using Widgets.
  • Edit Catalog: Select which folders on your device are cataloged.
  • Remove Catalog: Remove the catalog from EdgeRover. Your content remains on the source, but you cannot use EdgeRover to see your content.
  • More info: View general information about your catalog and Source.
  • Lock Source: Set a password to protect the contents of your device.
  • Formatting: Erase all the content on your device.
  • Register: Activate your warranty coverage as well as receive product information and updates.
  • Source settings: Configure the device, such as editing the device's name, turning its LED on or off, or setting a sleep timer.
  • Health Check: Launch a companion app, WD Drive Utilities™, to run a variety of drive diagnostic tests.
  • RAID Settings: Launch WD Drive Utilities to configure supported RAID drives and see their status.
Note: WD Drive Utilities has its own online help, accessible by clicking on the question mark in the bottom left of its window.
Tip: Provide each device with a unique name so that when EdgeRover informs you that a file is on a specific device, you know which one is being referenced.
